French Guiana

French Guiana is an overseas department and a region of northern France and the only territory in the mainland of the Americas to have full integration in a European country.

As French Guiana is a part of the European Union and Eurozone the currency is Euros throughout the country. Although the country is still pretty dependent on France for its trade and goods there economy is building each year with its biggest exports and trades being fishing gold mining and timber.

For those who enjoy history there is much to be told here. It is a little dark and gritty but also fascinating. Learn the story of a young Frenchman imprisioned for a crime he didnt commit on Devils island and how he escaped through shark infested waters. Or visit Camp De La Transportation and learn the horrifying stories of those who were imprisoned there.

French Guiana also has its very own space station that you can go and visit and maybe if you are lucky see a space shuttle launch.
